Front and Center: Justice Sonia Sotomayor Visits Davidson

“This is the only place I’ve spoken where they put the students in the front and center,” U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor told a crowd of nearly 1,800 during a conversation with the campus community in the Belk Arena.

Sotomayor touched upon a wide range of topics, including the lack of diversity on the nation’s highest court, the politicization of the judicial process and the benefits of a liberal arts education. Sotomayor’s Yale Law classmate and friend Bill Eskridge ’73 had told the justice about Davidson and encouraged her to see “this special place” for herself.
