Northwestern Mutual has partnered with Davidson Athletics to honor Wildcat student athletes as part of the Northwestern Mutual Student-Athlete Spotlight. Swimmer Jean DeOrnellas ’13 and distance runner Demetrios Pagonis ’13 have been acknowledged for their academic and athletic efforts.
Pagonis is a Porter Vinson Chemistry Award winner who boasts numerous SoCon honors and has previously been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team. He owns several top-10 times in Wildcat history and is the program record holder in the indoor 3,000-meter run. Pagonis earned all-conference honors during the 2012 cross country season and is the defending indoor SoCon champion in the 5,000-meter run.
A member of the CCSA All-Academic Team, DeOrnellas was designated a Scholar All-American Honorable Mention by the CSCAA in 2011 and has helped the Wildcats earn Scholar All-American Team honors. She specializes in freestyle and butterfly events and appears on the all-time top-10 performers lists in three individual events. DeOrnellas is also a school record holder as a member of the 200-, 400-, and 800-yard freestyle relays.
