Hopkins and Rua Grab Top Davidson Athletic Awards


Davidson’s 2011–12 athletic season award winners were announced in May. Ryan Hopkins ’12 received the Tommy Peters Award, and Christine Rua ’12 received the Rebecca Stimson Award. The school record holder in the 8K and 10K, Hopkins was a three-time All-SoCon cross-country selection, and qualified for the NCAA Men’s Track & Field East Regionals in the 10K.

Rua was one of the first Davidson field hockey players to earn a spot on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-South Region Second Team. She also won the Nor-Pac’s Sherly Johnson Academic Award.

Swimmer Geoff Peitz ’12, Mid-Major All-America honorable mention, was presented with the Thomas D. Sparrow Award, while women’s soccer player Stephanie Gerow ’12 received the Susan K. Roberts Award.

Becca Fisher ’14, the 2011 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in women’s soccer, was recognized with the Helen DeVane Carnegie Award, presented to Davidson’s most outstanding freshman athlete.
