When a Broken Record Is a Very Good Thing

Members of the Davidson family sent a thunderous message of support for the college’s mission during 2009–10, shattering records in every category of giving.

Maybe the best statistic is this: Davidson led the nation in alumni participation with 61 percent, with a record 10,055 of Davidson’s 16,497 active alumni making Annual Fund gifts. This marks the eighth year in a row of contributions by 60 or more percent of alumni. Annual Fund donors designated nearly half of their $10.8 million in gifts to The Davidson Trust, standing firmly in support of the college’s promise of educational accessibility.

Overall, alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations contributed more than $36 million in outright gifts to Davidson. Gifts from current and past parents surpassed $9 million. Ninety-nine percent of the Class of 2010 made a gift to alma mater. Finally, the college recorded $55.3 million in cash and commitments for the fiscal year—more than double the amount of the previous year and the highest in the college’s history.
