Patchwork of Hope
When Iris Leung ’12 learned that a Davidson alumni AIDS quilt was all in pieces—literally—she sprang into action.
Scotty Nicholls, director of student housing from 1965 to 1980, began the project as some of “her boys” succumbed to AIDS as young men, in the early days of the epidemic. Now living at The Pines at Davidson retirement community, Nicholls is no longer quilting.
Leung, a Bonner Scholar who became friends with Nicholls while volunteering at The Pines, is now working with campus health educator Georgia Ringle and Pines resident Blanche Parker to make the quilt more complete. Do you know of other alumni whose family would want their name included?
